Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Mycology in sao paulo Research foundation Brazil

The Thematic Project “Integrating phylogeny, genetics and chemical ecology to unravel the tangled bank of the multipartite fungus-farming ant s.ymbiosis” announces a post-doctoral position of up to 24 months. The project aim (1) to discover if the evolution of the fungus Escovopsis is linked to the evolution of ants and their mutualistic fungi and (2) to describe new species of this genus by applying different taxonomic tools.

Applications are open for candidates who obtained PhD in Biological Sciences, Microbiology or related areas; and no more than 2 years post-PhD. Applicants with knowledge on the fungus-growing ant system are also highly recommended. The selected candidate should have knowledge on fungal isolation, molecular techniques (DNA extraction, PCR and sequencing), as well as knowledge in taxonomy, phylogenetics, systematics, and evolution of fungi (ancestral state reconstruction). Candidates with experience in genomics are also welcomed.

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently to develop his/her research project, as well as to work in a team-based environment. The fellow will be based at the Rio Claro Institute of Biology of the São Paulo State University (IBRC-UNESP) in Brazil.
